2. I am currently living in Bucharest, Romania and this city had benefitted from the work of someone who was thinking 30 years ago. I have not been able to find the person's name, but it consulting with Romanians I have been told that when the main roads going through town were being 'redone' after the revolution of 1989, lots of thought and consideration went into planning a city around its people. Parks are everywhere- I mean it. In every part of town, every neighborhood there is a local park, very large trees and shaded spots for sitting. The main avenues are all lined with tall old trees that were clearly not cut down in their youth and planted there if needed. People have kept trees in their backyards and frontwards even in the centre of town and parking lots and walking areas physically go around old trees- nothing is straight here. The photos I have included show one of many streets leading into town (surrounded by trees) and then an example of usable greespace in a local park where everyone can enjoy the outdoors comfortably.![street ][1]!![enter image description here][2] 3. I have nothing to suggest to the town in terms of temperature management for the city in general. In the very old part of town (cobblestone streets where tourists walkabout) the city has found a way to have coffee shops and stored provide many shaded areas between buildings. I am not sure that this is what regulates the temperature , bu in combination with the varied building heights something is working well. 4. I have to admit that because of the language barrier when it comes to the publication of public policy and the temporary nature of my stay here I am not aware of the direction in which the city is moving when it comes to the UHI of Bucharest. I only know that as a relatively new member of the EU the country as a whole is working on several initiatives that could help raise its status in Europe and help to attract very important funding from tourists. Hopefully there are some smart and creative city planners part of that promotional team!
