I can see in the case of Minneapolis is hotter than in nearby rural areas, the same case is in Cincinnati and Las Vegas. **2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area?** Lima is the capital and the largest city in Peru. It lies between the valleys of the Chillon, Rimac and Lurin, in the central coastal part of the country, next to the Pacific Ocean. With a population of almost 10 million, Lima is the most populous metropolitan area of Peru and the third largest city in the Americas behind of Sao Paulo and Mexico City. ![ingrese la descripción de la imagen aquí][1] Metropolitan Lima covers 2,672.28 km2 (1,031.77 sq mi) of which 825.88 km2 (318.87 sq mi) (31%) comprises the actual city and 1,846.40 km2 (712.90 sq mi) (69%) the city outskirts. The climate of the city presents a particular situation. It combines a total absence of precipitation, with a higher level of humidity and occasional coastal fog. Peruvian central coast shows a serie of atypical microclimates as a consequence of the cold Humboldt Current thst comes from Antartica, the proximity of the Andes Mountains and its geographical location giving Lima a subtropical fresh, desert and humid climate at the same time. In addition, Lima has a combination of warm and mild weather. The annual average temperature is 18.5 at 19 °C with an annual summer maximum of 29°C. In summer, from December to April with temperatures ranges between 29-30°C during the day, 21-22°C at night. About UHI in my country, we need to consider two important factors: - The lack of green areas - The overgrowth of our city without policies that regulate the land use and protect or promote green areas. With the boom of construction and economic development wherever you see, you observe a building lifting up. Further, we don’t have enough green areas to call our city as a sustainable and livable city. Our green areas represent 2.9 m2 per person although international organizations establishes a minimum of 8 m2. The facts mentioned above in sum with the massive city densification and the excessive automotive park cause in my city many Urban Heat Island effects. Which are the measures you would propose?** As a part in the decisio making process: - I will propose the creation of new parks instead of new building, especially in areas where the population density is excessive in contrast with urban or green areas. - Promote the use of green roofs and walls in new constructions or existing buildings giving a reward in reduction of municipality taxes. **4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?** At the moment, there are no policies about livability and sustainability in my country.
