2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area Because of increasing urbanisation(60% population growth in last 2 decade), and presence of waterbodies and lakes in the city, the UHI -difference in temperature found in the city is 2.5 deg celsius. The area Iive in shows 1 deg Celsius difference compared to the outskirts ![Bangalore outskirts][1] ![Bangalore my area 1][2] ![Bangalore my area 2][3] ![Bangalore outskirts-lakeside][4] 3. Which are the measures you would propose To reduce the Urban Heat Island, i would suggest Tree planting, reflective roofs(Mass RCC roofs with white coat, and glossy finishes) or green roofs, reflective colored walls, and use of grass grid pavers instead of rcc pavements to increase infiltration of water. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area There are no policies which are in practice, however, TERI-The Energy & Resources Institute Bangalore is trying to gather as much information on this as possible to approach the development authorities. Currently, the Energy/ sustainability codes in India(Griha, LEED India NC, Energy Conservation building code) exist and recommend about cool roofs at building level to reduce the UHI and thus help in reducing electricity demand at city level. However it is not compulsory to follow these codes.
