Until now, Santiago has been experimenting an increase in temperature associated to UHI and other factors such pollution and increase in the urbanization in the periphery. In addition, Chile has been living a process of transition in their Climate, from moderate climate to a hotter climate. In fact, a recent study (2014) of a Research team of Geography Faculty of the Universidad de Chile has demonstrated the presence of several UHI in differents areas of Santiago. To begin, I think might be: - The creation of public policies focused in the problematic (Government). - The Incorporation of energy urban districts associated to neighborhoods in order to minimize the energy consumption, encourage the resilience and colaboration and the implementation of energy systems based on renewal sources (Municipalities). - A progressive reduction in the traffic by road pricing in order to reduce the dependence on oil fuels and reduce the air pollution. - A master plan of public transport, considering an integrated network among bus, subway and bycicles. - The implementation of a urban code, capable to define new standars of build and urban growth. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Not yet, as a Country we are in debt in this matter. Today only is an academic concern.
