There are many causes of UHI effects including high density of tall buildings, which inhibits the radiation from escaping, resulting in heat-trapping. Also, the surface of buildings are commonly constituted of arrays of mirrors which reflect the solar radiation to the street, and thus UHI effect is worsen. Furthermore, the air pollutants, which accumulate due to weaker air-flow in the urban area, trap heat and make UHI effect more serious. Urban areas are hotter than rural/ suburban areas by 1.1 to 5.5 °C, according to [Green Power][1]. 2 Which are the measures you would propose? One way to alleviate the UHI effect in urban centers is reducing the waste heat from sources especially vehicles and air-conditioning systems by encouraging citizens to use public mass transport system and making better ventilation design/ heat insulating materials. Also, it is wise to rise the vegetation cover and tree planting in urban areas either on the roof or on the sides of pedestrians. 3 Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Active planting and greening programs have been done in urban areas such as public housing estates and streets. ![enter image description here][2] ![enter image description here][3] [1]: http://www.greenpower.org.hk/html/eng/job_weather_03.shtml [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14451440983666207.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14451441149998595.jpg
