2. Main UHI in my area are 3 high energy consumption industries which are mitigated by building styles and available space. As you can see from the picture below, there are very few tall buildings in the areas to trap heat. Most of the industries use natural gas to drive steam turbines for electrical production. Multi-family homes are usually 2 story row houses or 4 story walk up apartment buildings with very few buildings 10 stories or higher. Both rain and snow levels are affected by UHI in our area. 3. I would ensure urban climate effect considerations were made mandatory in any building consideration and any new industry would have to contribute to the electrical grid as well as have as being subject to strict environmental impact studies. In this area the additional heat would be welcome but change in climate would create problems with insects that are currently not a problem and would affect crop growth patterns. 4. Our city does have a structured development plan for the west side of the city available for anyone to review at http://www.lloydminster.ca/index.aspx?NID=492. The photo is to the east, new development follows the same height profiles. ![east view of my town. Includes a refinery, heavy oil upgrader and agricultural industries.][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14451249792934689.jpg
