On average across all 60 cities, urban summer temperatures were 2.4°F hotter than rural temperatures. **2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area?** The data and information on my place of residence is not fully available, for many reasons, but by using this link: https://weatherspark.com/history/29287/2013/Benghazi-Banghazi-Libya , I managed to find some approximate information: Average temperatures in Benghazi during the summer season is 32 °C. Average temperatures in surrounding rural area, villages and small towns, during the summer season is 30 °C. In general, the difference in temperature between the city of Benghazi and surrounding areas is perceptible. But we should not overlook the fact that Benghazi is surrounded by mountainous areas, and the altitudes those areas have the effect on low temperatures. So, the 2 °C difference between Benghazi and surrounding rural area due to UHI and the altitudes. ![enter image description here][1] ![enter image description here][2] **3. Which are the measures you would propose?** 1. At urban level: Bring the rural to the city, by many active ideas. Layout the streets to allow wind flow through without being hampered by buildings. 2. At architecture level: Design buildings to conserve energy within, using correct direction, the correct dimensions, and appropriate materials. **4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?** There have been few incomplete studies in the past. Urban environment changed dramatically now than it was twenty years ago, there haphazard construction, which cut through the green belt that was protects the city, the violations continued in the absence of an effective plan of urban planning. In the last ten years there have been attempts to develop a new urban plans for the city, but political corruption hindered all of the studies. Now, after the revolution, the situation continues as it is. Since two years ago the city is witnessing a war against terrorists, for this there are some areas completely destroyed, this gives us a real opportunity to reconsider and study and develop model plans for the future of the city.
