Summer in New York city is 29 deg, F. (12.5 deg C.) hotter in the city than in nearby rural areas. On average the city is 2.7 deg. F. hotter than the rural areas. Maximum and minimum temperature records for Nicosia, my home town, cover a period of about 100 years. There are no indications that sites, screens and thermometers have been sufficiently unchanged during these long periods. Moreover Nicosia has undergone much development since the early readings were made. Looking at 10 year average we see that there is no change in the real average. In a developing town one could expect too small and slow changes. Artificial heating of buildings and the burning of fuel for transport keeps the minimum temperature more or less constant. In the rural areas on the whole there is small difference between the western and eastern sides of the island. However the west has temperatures a little higher than the leeward east in January and somewhat lower in July. One of the measures I would suggest is to restrict the movement of traffic in the city. Already there are some areas in the heart of the Nicosia that vehicle use is prohibited at certain times. Make parkings areas away from Nicosia and persuade people to use the bus for coming to town. Also increase of the green areas. I understand that the local authority moves towards more widespread use of the buses. ![trees in the city][1] ![view of the city][2] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1444930043107106.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14449301257391891.jpg
