![Monthly rainfall and temperature along the year. ][1] Font: http://pt.climate-data.org/location/43571/ Due to a fast urban growing, the heat island effect has elevated the temperature in about 2°C. The main causes are: - Lack of wind corridors; - Deficit in the amount of trees and green areas; - Replacement of traditional permeable paving blocks for asphalt; ![Santa Maria de Jetibá, urban area view][2] ![Santa Maria de Jetibá, rural area view][3] The measures I would like to propose are: - Increasing and creating wooded and green public areas; - Encouraging the use of sustainable transportation modes such as bicycles and public transportation. - Inhibit the full occupancy of lots, leaving gaps between the buildings; However, there's no initiative to prevent the heat island effect increase. The local government only reacts to solve localized issues when some people dare to question the policies for environment in our city.
