Answer 2: Majority of the Coal is used for the Industry. Ill effects of coal mining – Now a days there aren’t any mines created the entire patch of land is blasted and the coal is retrieved as a result acres and acres of land is nothing but coal. This land stays barren even after all the coal there has been extracted. A more efficient way of working would involve containing the environment while mining for coal so that the surrounding areas and the people living there are not affected by the mining. ![Drilling Machine at a coal mining site near Varanasi in Maharashtra ][1] ![Bore drilled through which the dynamite will be lowered into the ground][2] ![Image showing the expanse of the mining site][3] ![Coal and the mining site in the background][4] Answer 3: Mumbai has always had local trains, the best part about them is that their CO2 footprint is zero. The trains carry a huge chunk of the city's population to and from work. Mumbai also has metro and monorail projects that have taken off and are undergoing expansion as of today. Without these means of transports the pollution in the city would have been exponential. The public transport in India on a day to day basis is a struggle whether you are in the train or on the road. A efficient public transportation system would ensure lesser vehicles on the road. Car pooling and or company organised transport system should be made mandatory. Staggered office timings (by area) throughout the city would help in minimizing the traffic on the road and hence lesser traffic jams and lesser CO2 in the atmosphere. CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is being used increasingly for vehicles as it is more economical. This will ensure in minimizing the import for petroleum in the country. In recent news in my country the pollution levels of the capital Delhi were under scrutiny. CNG is not use din public transport there as extensively as it is in Mumbai. As a solution the chief minister has declared that no new diesel vehicles will be registered in Delhi January 2016 onwards. And on odd day cars with odd numbers will run and similarly on even days even numbered cars will be allowed to run. Desperate times call for desperate measures !!!!!
