People don't interact with the environment and the climate conditions, Their lives are trapped in air conditioned spaces. From the house to the car to work to the mall. The energy consumption is huge. And as long as this lifestyle continues it will get worse. I noticed during my stay that even with 80% temperature in the summer the conditions can be more tolerable in areas with plants, like in the development of Barari, or in Abu Dhabi where there is clearly a more careful urban plan with greenery (not only single decorative palm trees). Also, what is upseting for an architect being involved in the construction in this area is the use of materials that are far away than sustainable, that overheat the buildings, making the use of airconditioning even more necessary. In addition the habits of the inhabitants create an even worse endless loop: the interior temperatures vary 17-20 degrees calsius when the perceptual temperature outside can reach easily 50 degrees. Sometimes change can be really easily in everyone's hands, either we are talking about the planner or the engineer or the person handling the thermostat.
