**Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area** Land surface temperature had an average increase of 4.5'C from 1989 to 2002 in Metro Manila. Disproportions in temperature between Metro Manila and its adjacent municipalities were also observed. Rapid development is a major cause of the stifling heat that the city’s 14 million residents have been complaining about in recent days. EFFECTS: 1. Hot temperature reaching about 34 degree celsius and higher when summer. 2. Ordinary days from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm temperature is too hot outside, thats why people just stay inside their houses. 3. Electricity demand is higher because of too much demand for aircon, electric fan, refrigerator & other cooling appliances to make a person comfortable. 4. People's health are at risk especially those who are diagnosed with heart diseases & high blood pressure. 5. Disease like chicken fox, sore eyes, skin burns are viral when the temperature in our place is too hot. ![enter image description here][1] ![enter image description here][2] PHOTO CREDIT TO:T.TAMBAY 2007 **Which are the measures you would propose** If I will take part in the decision making on how to reduce the UHI effect in our country, I would suggest the following: 1. Plant trees at major roads. 2. Obliged Designers/Architects/Engineers to use materials which lessen the UHI effect in the surrounding. 3. Plant vegetation in every existing park in the country. 4. Support Eco-friendly materials use in houses, building, etc. 5.Partner with the experts & consultants to apply their knowledge on how to lessen UHI effect in the sorrounding. 6. Provide enough jobs in the province to lessen those people who go to nearby cities to work. 7. Increase Minimum wage rate at nearby province so that people don't need to go to the city to seek for a better paying jobs. **Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area** Based on my observation, the people who are in charge with the cities development little by little do some moves to prevent increase of UHI effect in our city. They plant trees at sidewalks, put plant vines in electric posts, plant vegetation in plant boxes. The government also move to provide enough jobs at provinces to decrease migration of people from provinces, and prevent additional pollution. Our government also support the environment friendly public transport like buses which uses electricity, taxi's which use LPG gases.
