2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? In my place of residence the highest temperatures is normally 33 °C while the surrounding rural areas normally average around 28 °C. This means the temperature of Bangalore is 5°C higher than the immediate surrounding areas. Some of the effects of UHI in Bangalore include, deforestation ,High rise buildings with glasses resulting in more heat being reflected to the urban contours, emissions from vehicles and industries leading to global warming is one of the most crucial and scary thing in bangalore. It has tremendous implications in risking the human health. ![MG ROAD IN BANGALORE][1] ![SUNSET AT NANDI HILLS][2] ![CENTER OF THE CITY - LAVELLE ROAD][3] 3. Which are the measures you would propose? Among the measures I would propose includes PRESERVING the urban parks in the city ,promoting urban farming to help with the cooling effect, promoting vernacular and local methods of construction which is popular also all around ,reducing over reliance on motor vehicles for transport and developing walking and cycling infrastructure to reduce global warming effect from cars and buses(they are a very major issue in the generation of heat) . and to bind them all together a very democratic and a trustable smart governance which sort of takes of these all things and make them happen. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? There lacks a clear cut policy focusing on UHI, but the city administration is undertaking some initiatives to put up research and experiments to conduct tests and examine the UHI in bangalore, Bodies as TERI, LEED INDIA, are trying to carry out and support but its effect on policy making is highly doubtful and as of now doesn't exit.
