I have definitely been able to notice the differences in temperature that have made Boston a warmer area than before. It's December and the temperature still hasn't gone below about 35 degrees. Usually there is already snowfall but this year it continues to be unseasonably warm. However, this has contributed to comfort, the temperature has been comfortable. Boston is an old city and therefore it was built in winding streets. Some areas have very thin alleys and other streets are much wider. The buildings in Boston are very low compared to other cities and the proximity of the Charles river and the Boston Harbor makes the city colder. 3. I would propose that businesses would be close to where people are working. Although public transportation in Boston is relatively good, people still drive from surrounding suburbs. Better structuring of the streets and buildings to make sure that the variations in street width are most conducive to heat island control. 4. The Boston area can be up to 15 degrees hotter than surrounding rural areas which is something that is definitely affecting policy. Boston has been improving bike lanes and sidewalks in the area to make sure that people can get around. The surrounding Universities are also trying to create more green campuses.
